You may also hear the phrase DNS. DNS stands for domain name server. Your DNS is a computer that’s used by your ISP, or Internet service provider, to store the database of IP addresses you’ve accessed from your computer. Basically, if you type a particular domain name into your web browser, your Internet service provider will consult your DNS database in order to translate the name into an appropriate IP address.Your domain name specific name is assigned to your IP address. Typically, a domain name is the name of your business, or your personal website. Depending upon your web hosting service, you may notice that your web host’s name appears before your name in the HTTP area of your computer. Unfortunately, this is a detriment to companies seeking to gain a competitive edge. When developing your website, try to avoid this at all costs.
